This project started and was inspired by the question of why don’t we design a custom house? Instead of using the plan from the previously existing building. The project aimed to maximize the area to 5000sf and try and do a passive house, but in the end because of the budge the design resulted in a very energy efficient step 3 -----step 5 house as close as possible to the passive house standards. The site is a challenge because its location in North Vancouver with lots of hills and it took a lot of time to process the design with the city because of the square footage. It is a very spatially driven project, and site driven project. Different then traditional North Vancouver houses because of the flat roof. It reflects a more modern and not traditional in terms of the form. The site is surrounded by trees, and a view from the top floor and you can see Stanley park after the park after building up higher, they have a view now.
