Gustavson Wylie Architects Inc. is proud to have been involved in the design and construction of dozens of Canadian Tire Stores over the years. Among our noteworthy accomplishments, GWA was selected to design the Canadian Tire store in Prince George, which at the time was the largest Canadian Tire Store in the country (40% larger than next largest) and the first to express Canadian Tire’s new “20-20” concept. As part of the new Westgate development, with additional land available on site and neighbors such as Walmart and Home Depot, head office felt this was the ideal spot for a larger store. The intent to create a more “customer friendly” space through the use of such features as lower shelves, wider aisles and a center-stage area for community groups was part of the new 20-20 concept being rolled out. Likewise, larger bays and oversized doors and hoists were incorporated in the Auto Centre to better accommodate customers’ recreational vehicles. Experience and familiarity with the standard Canadian Tire stores, their layout and construction, allowed GWA to successfully implement Canadian Tire’s the new retail concept.
