Gustavson Wylie Architects Inc. was established in 1994 through the merger of John E. Gustavson, Architect and G.D. Wylie, Architect. In 2012 GWA added three new partners to the firm. The company has over 35 years of architectural and interior design experience across Canada with a large number of its projects located in western Canada. Our in-house team includes senior architects, intern architects, registered interior designers, architectural technologists, support staff, and an office administrator.

At GWA we pride ourselves on the quality of service and work delivered to our customers. We believe that our ever growing list of satisfied clients is a testament to our company’s commitment to successfully produce projects on time and within project budgets. We consciously control the growth of our firm in order to maintain effective management of projects. Rather than diversify beyond our combined areas of expertise, we affiliate with reputable individuals and firms having specific skills such as cost consulting, facility and building engineering, landscape, etc. These consultants can be brought to our team as required by the needs of the individual project.

GWA involves clients fully with the development of projects in order to better understand their needs as well as to obtain the benefits of their creative input. In addition, we prepare a detailed schedule and time budget prior to commencing the work. This allows us to better anticipate our staff requirements, key decision times, requirements for approval and other factors which are critical to the successful completion of the work. In order to ensure effective scheduling, GWA is fully conversant with, and dedicated to, the utilization of the critical path method of scheduling for all of our projects no matter their size or complexity.

Since its inception, GWA has produced a diverse range of projects developing expertise in the design and construction of many building types. GWA has extensive experience delivering services to multi location clients. We provide these services across Canada to clients such as HSBC, Scotiabank, Starbucks, HMS Host, Boston Pizza, Brown’s Socialhouse, and White Spot Restaurants. Our staff work as specialized teams dedicated to delivering projects to these clients with a customer service driven focus.

Additional project expertise ranges from major building developments, senior care home facilities, shopping complexes and large government facilities to smaller scale projects for leading food outlets and gas stations. Major projects recently completed or currently being developed include: lululemon athletica’s head office, Hemmera Envirotech Head Office, BCIT Motive Power campus on Annacis Island, Air Canada’s Ground Service Equipment shops, food and retail outlets in the Vancouver and Calgary International Airports, and Canada Post facilities throughout BC.

Gustavson Wylie Architects Inc. believes in providing customer service which meets and exceeds our client’s expectations.  We tailor our services as needed to best suit the scope of work for each client and their project. Our strength lies in the ability to understand our clients’ needs, building requirements and local codes. We provide full consulting services with an integrated design approach, often retaining the same group of structural, mechanical, electrical and other engineering consultants, resulting in our ability to maintain a high degree of quality in our work from project to project. As is evident from our client list, excellence in service allows us to develop strong, long lasting relationships with our customers which in turn leads to an increased efficiency with repeat business.

Due to the nature of the majority of our commissions (private sector, corporate, commercial, institutional), our ability to maintain schedules and complete projects on time and on budget is paramount. In addition to our production ability, we are also involved in the development of many design standards for our broad base client list. Our ability to take standard specifications and develop them into prototypical designs to be reused in various locations demonstrates Gustavson Wylie Architects Inc.’s diversity in project delivery.

It is our firm’s philosophy and practice to operate in a team environment and to receive creative input from as broad a base as possible, including owner, team members, and political forces and approving authorities. Participation by all of these groups in the design process will, in our experience, shorten the time for approval, improve the understanding and acceptance of the development, and strengthen the quality of the solution.
